How it works

  1. Enter the date notice is given.
  2. Choose the notice length in calendar days, weeks or months.
  3. The calculator shows the notice end date and, if it lands on a weekend or Irish public holiday, the previous working day as a planning estimate.
02

Example

Notice is given on 1 September with a four-week period. The estimated notice end is 29 September. If that date is a normal weekday, it is also shown as the estimated last working day.

03

Irish rules in plain English

Notice normally runs in calendar time unless the contract says something different.

The effective date of notice, contract wording, annual leave, garden leave and payment in lieu can change the last day actually worked.

Confirm the date in writing with the employer before making travel, payroll or new-employment arrangements.

Important

This calculator provides an estimate for general information. It is not legal, employment, tax or financial advice.

04

Frequently asked questions

Is the calculated date legally binding?

No. Contract wording, when notice is deemed received, holidays, garden leave and employer arrangements can change the final date.

What if the end date is a weekend?

The calculator shows the notice end date and also estimates the previous working day. Check this with your employer.

Are public holidays excluded from notice?

Usually notice runs in calendar time unless the contract says otherwise. Public holidays are highlighted, not automatically added.
